What is the MTBF of a Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series Switches?

Hi Ooron

Cisco isnt giving the MTBF value of the 4500 in its datasheet.. it anyway has a very high MTBF value and with practical experiences i would say thats true... we have seen lots of switches UP for years without any issues.. since its modular, it also depends on what modules are inserted, vs the failure scenarios... Are you evaluating 4500's for the core of your network ?

MTBF numbers are provided per PID . For the 4500 look here:


To determine actual system availability based on MTBF, you can use the SHARC tool:


In any case, an MTBF value is used to determine the probability of failure of a component within a specified time period, 1 year etc.

Thanks for the URLs..but are these internal to cisco ? I wasnt able to open both the web pages from internet... www-in ?? is there a public URL for getting the MTBFs ?
