After the discovery, most of my devices showing the ip address, although in global settings I selected host name as Preferred DCR Display name. Why is that?

Discovery needs to be able to resolve the management IP address using either DNS or the server's local hosts file. Make sure these have the necessary entries. Then, try using the NMSROOT/bin/resolver.pl tool to test resolution:
NMSROOT/bin/perl NMSROOT/bin/resolver.pl IP
Where IP is the management IP address that shows up as the Display Name in DCR.
Once resolution is working, make sure you have the option to update the DCR display name enabled in Discovery, and run a new Discovery.

Hi Clark,
Ok Ive added the host file to the server.
Has the bug been fixed?? Im running version CS 3.3
"CSCsq54877
The resolver.pl tool did not properly resolve the IP Address to the hostname.
This problem occurred although the proper resolution path existed. "
I've tried the command below and it doesnt do anything.
C:\Program Files\CSCOpx\bin>perl C:\Progra~1\CSCOpx\bin>resolver.pl 10.1.1.1

This bug has been resolved, but you look to have corrupted your resolver.pl by typing the wrong command. The command should have been:
c:\progra~1\cscopx\bin\perl C:\Progra~1\CSCOpx\bin\resolver.pl 10.1.1.1
But, if you typed it as you posted here, you have now overwritten resolver.pl with garbage (or nothing). In that case, you would need to contact TAC to get a good copy.

yup, its gone. that's sux!!!
Does this reolver.pl file affect the name display in my DCR device list?

No, but you do not have a reliable way of validating your lookups.
