Solved: Caller ID from SIP Trunks to PSTN

Hi,

How is caller id passed from the PSTN to the CallManager 7.x or CUBE when using a SIP trunk? Is there information somewhere on how to configure incoming transformations allowing click to call from call directories?

The number is in whatever format your provider chooses to send it in. SIP has no explicit requirement for E.164 formatting. You can debug it on CUBE to see what your provider is sending or just ask them.

Type of Number (TON) is an ISDN concept. Subscriber/National/International do not exist in SIP so all UC Manager can give you is Unknown.

UCM 7.1 did introduce a CSS option in addition to just the prefix for this exact scenario. You can create a CSS with multiple transformations in it if your provider does not send a consistent format.

Caller ID information is included in the SIP INVITE message. You can transform the information in UCM identical to any other type of circuit: on the device, device pool, or service parameters. In this case the device parameters would be on the SIP trunk you added in UCM.

You can also use translation rules on IOS dial-peers if you want to transform at CUBE.

Thanks for such a prompt response.

I am actually wondering what kind of number gets passed from the SP across the SIP trunk: is it E.164?, E.164 without the plus? In the call manager a SIP trunk has only the option to set an "Incoming Calling Party Unknown Number Prefix" and not National, Subscriber or International prefixes. Is this a CallManager trunk limitation or related to SIP?

So I guess my question is really: what digits are we getting for these different types of calls?
