X2-10GB-ER with Attenuators

I have a 10Gb link that is a little over 10Km. I'm using X2-10G-ER transceivers and WS-X6K-5DB-ATT= attenuators.   The documentation says to put teh attenuators on the RX side on each end. But purely for convenience and ease of installation I would like to put both attentuators on the same switch - one on the RX and one on TX.   Does it make any difference really if I put the attenuator at the  TX end or RX end of the fiber?

Typically, attenuators are installed at the receiver end because of the back reflections these devices may cause.  Too much light being reflected back into the laser can result in poor performance of the link.  Some transmitters come with built-in optical isolators to reduce or eliminate this problem. Thus, you may be able to install it at the transmitter end.
