Hello,

We currently have TACACS+ running on ACS 4.1 for Windows.  We want to replace this device with ACS SE 4.2 (appliance).  Is it possible to backup/restore the ACS for Windows 4.1 database directly to ACS SE 4.2?  Or do we requrie the same version level of ACS software?  Please advise.

Thanks.

Yes this is totally valid; this new feature that was integrated into ACS 4.2. You cannot however, restore ACS 4.1 into the latest ACS 4.2.1.

Once you have upgraded into ACS 4.2, ACS 4.2.1 can restore from ACS 4.2...

For ACS 4.2:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/cisco_secure_access_control_server_for_solution_engine/4.2/installation/guide/solution_engine/upgap.html#wp1173975

For ACS 4.2.1:

CSCsz96936    4.2.1 to remove option to restore 4.1 db. To support restore of 4.2 db

Hello, one question is possible to migrate from ACS 4.1 SE to ACS 4.2 SE?

Where I can find the PAK, or serial number in 4.1 SE, to go to http://www.cisco.com/upgrade/ and request the 4.2 dvd recovery...

Or I dont need any PAK or serial number?

Thanks in advance

In order to upgrade ACS windows from 4.1 to 4.2, you need to open up a tac case or contact your accounts team. ACS version 4.2 is not avaialble on cisco.com

Once you get that
1.] Take backup of your existing configuration
2.] Run the setup of ACS version 4.2 and keep the existing configuration.

ACS for Windows doesn't require any kind of license/ serial number/ key. You simply need to install it on supported Microsoft platform, it won't ask for
any key or license.

Supported upgrade path:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/cisco_secure_access_control_server_for_windows/4.2/installation/guide/windows/install.html#wp1102849

Reinstalling or Upgrading an Existing Configuration:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/cisco_secure_access_control_server_for_windows/4.2/installation/guide/windows/install.html#wp1041858

Thanks for the answer JK, but this case is a ACS Appliance Cisco 1113, I need to order the DVD with 4.2?

Thanks one more time.

Correct!!!

For ACS solution engine the process is littel different. Since you are running ACS SE 4.1.x, you can directly upgrade to 4.2 by reimaging the solution engine.

Here are the steps:

--  Get the recovery DVD ( Recovery DVDs are model specific) from TAC.

--  You would get three different ISO images. You need to merge then into single image.

--  Take back of your ACS SE 4.1.x configuration.

--  Reimage the solution engine via recovery DVD.

--  Restore the 4.1 database directly on the reimaged box.

Reimaging the Appliance with the ACS 4.2 Recovery CD or DVD
