device mobility vs. emergency responder

Hi All,

with the new feature "device mobility", do we still need emergency responder? what's the advantage to have emergency responder beside email and call notification to security desk when we can use "device mobility"?

Excellent, thoughtful question my friend

Although Device Mobility may help mitigate the problems

associated with "nomadic" phones and 911 services by routing

calls out the proper "local" gateway it does not eliminate the

need for CER in my mind.

If you are in a location on a large campus and someone has

a serious health emergency, a call from a properly configured

Device Mobility "nomadic' phone may reach the proper PSAP

centre but they will only know to dispatch an Ambulance to the

campus itself. With CER they will dispatch Emergency personnel

to the "actual" room on campus where the person is in trouble.

The saving of time by a proper dispatch location may, in fact, save

the persons life. Something to think about.

In my mind these two great services are mutually exclusive and should

be used in conjunction with one another, not as separate entities.

Rob is absolutely right, Device Mobility does not replace CER, think of a scenario where there are multiple zones within a building that uses the same trunks for outbound calling, device mobility will let us ensure phones moved to this building will use the right trunks, but does not ensure 911 calls go out with the proper ELIN, sure you can force it with creating a mobility info group for every subnet and match subnet to ERL, but that would be extremely difficult to manage, require a lot of configration and would not be applicable to all networks.
