Ingress multicast replication in VSS with dual-homed MEC

Hi,

I understnad that when ingress replication is used, multicast packet are replicated when they enters the switch.  In VSS enviroment, it is likely multiple copy of multicast have to travel across VSL link.  Question i have is: if i have dual-homed MEC to both core and edge, multicast come in via core-DS MEC and the multicast traffic gets replicated at the ingress port/card, does the MEC do the magic of avoiding VSL for the replicated multicast traffic as well?

Thanks.

Da

Hello Da,

if you haven't already done, this is the kind of question to put in a Cisco TAC service request.

being a question about internal implementation a dedicated lab with traffic generator setup would be needed to try to understand if this forwarding optmization is in place or not.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
