VPN Client filtering ports

Got a laptop running XP and has Cisco Client VPN v5.0.0.4.0300 installed. Through series of troubleshooting steps I was able to determin that the Cisco Client software is blocking or filtering inbound ports. With the software installed I'm unable to ping the laptop from another source and it has software which gives the ability to send scanned documents to it via network scanner, the scanner attempts connect to the laptop via TCP port 139 and is unable to do so. If I uninstall the VPN software I can then ping it and send scanned documents to it. Any ideas on how to fix this odd issue would be appreciated.

The VPN client has a built-in firewall. You can turn it off from the options menu.

I see, I disabled the firewall and that does appear to have solved the issue. Thank you for the helpful reply!
