Hi All,
I have one "NM-4E1-IMA" card installed on 3725 router. Now I have installed new "VWIC2-2MFT-G703" card in the same router with the latest IOS 12.4T (Which supports this card).
Now I have a question regarding terminating the new E1 DATA circuit. Old "NM-4E1-IMA" card configuration is attached and need help for the configuration on new "VWIC2-2MFT-G703" card's E1 interface for data circuit.

Hello Nitin,
what the new card should do? data services or voice services?
In any case, the first step with these cards is to configure the card type as E1 or T1.
card type {e1 | t1} slot subslot
see
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_2/12_2z/12_2zj/feature/guide/gthwecan.html#wp1085317
This can create an E1 controller object that you can configure as usual. The channel-group defined within E1 controller creates a serial interface object that you can use for data services.
Other important aspects (very important for voice applications) is clocking. This is controlled by command
[no] network-clock-participate wic wic#
You can see a whole example for T1 here:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_2/12_2z/12_2zj/feature/guide/gthwecan.html#wp1085317
Hope to help
Giuseppe

Hi Giuseppe,
Thanks for replying,
it was helpfull but I need sample config for G.703 (Data E1) not for T1, which was not in that doc.
I also have a sample doc for G.703 but still confuse about the configuration.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_1t/12_1t1/feature/guide/dtg703.html#wp1025616
Right now the link is terminating on IMA card which creates ATM interfaces and we want to terminate it on G.703 card as data E1. So in this case what the configuration should be?
would you plese help me get the correct config.
plz help......
Thanks,
Nitin

You also need an AIM-ATM for IMA with VWIC cards.

Hello Nitin,
take in account Paolo's advice if your objective is to use the E1 as an ATM E1 you need additional hardware to provide ATM intelligence and capabilities.
about how to configure the E1
! the following creates E1 controller object it says to the module to act as an E1
card-type e1 slot# sublstlo#
controller e1 slot#/subslot#
! here E1 specific parameters apply to be checked with provider the following are the defaults
framing crc4
linecode hdb3
! the following is needed for G.703
channel-group 0 unframed
all this is explained in the link you have found.
Also the clocking aspects are very important as explained in another recent thread about clocking aspects of ATM IMA
network-clock-participate wic slot#
network-clock select 1 e1 slot#/substlot#
Hope to help
Giuseppe
