DSPFarm SCCP Controlled Gateway

Answered Question

Hello:

OK... this is kind of a newbie question.  I've not done this before... but we had a 3845 with IOS 12.4(24)T2 that was on the network but not being used for any voice traffic (Communications Manager doesn't know about it).  It was under utilized and we added some DSPs.  We've configured the DSPFarm and have defined a profile for transcoding services.

voice-card 0
dspfarm
dsp services dspfarm

!
!

sccp local Loopback10
sccp ccm 192.168.30.2 identifier 1 priority 1 version 6.0
sccp ccm 192.168.78.2 identifier 2 priority 2 version 6.0
sccp ccm 192.168.30.1 identifier 3 priority 3 version 6.0
sccp ip precedence 3
sccp
!
sccp ccm group 1
bind interface Loopback10
associate ccm 1 priority 1
associate ccm 2 priority 2
associate ccm 3 priority 3
associate profile 20 register WTC-XCODE-CRT12
!
dspfarm profile 20 transcode
codec g711ulaw
codec g711alaw
codec g729ar8
codec g729abr8
maximum sessions 10
associate application SCCP

We configured Communications Manager 6.1(2) with the same profile name (WTC-XCODE-CRT12) and have been through the configuration documents several times.  When we perform a show dspfarm all  we get:

Dspfarm Profile Configuration

Profile ID = 20, Service = TRANSCODING, Resource ID = 1

Total number of DSPFARM DSP channel(s) 10

And Communications Manager shows the status as "Unknown" and the IP address as "Unknown."

The one thing we've not done is defined this 3845 as any kind of gateway to Communications Manager.  Is that required?  If so, can we define it as an SCCP controlled gateway and if we do that is there any way to use the loopback interface.  This 3845 is dual connected for redundancy and it seems like a limitation to have to choose ONE of the two Ethernet interfaces for binding interface.

Thanks!

I have this problem too.

Hi Ken,

No.

Configuration seems to be fine. Check if SCCP is UP, you can check with show sccp commands. Also, you can follow mightyking's suggestion.

Check if the CUCM can be reached from Loopback's interface.

Best regards,

-- Adrián.

And the right answer was.... Reset SCCP.    Thanks mightyking!  I would not have guess that a simple "no sccp, sccp" would have forced the association. Obviously I need to understand the association mechanism better.  I assumed the SCCP would use the same polling parameters regardless of what type of application (phone, gateway, etc.) was in use.  I thought that this 3845 would poll every x minutes (what ever the polling interval is) and discover the Communications Manager.

Thanks for the help.
