What is the best way to connect this home lab?

Answered Question

Hello and thanks in advance for any assistance. I've purhcased the following for a home lab and would like to know the best way to connect them:

Routers

2 - 2610 32MB/8MB with WIC 2A/S and WIC-1DSU-T1

Switch

1 - 2924M-XL-EN

I'm also considering purchasing another 2924M-XL-EN. For CCNA studies, would it benefit me more to purcahse this other switch or another router? Either case please provide the best way to include whichever component into this network.

I have this problem too.

Hi,

check out the below link for connecting WIC-1DSU-T1 with other devices.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps3129/products_tech_note09186a00800b1501.shtml

As you have purchased 2 cisco 2610 routers it will be helpful for all routing labs and two cisco 2950 is enough for switch labs like stp rstp and others.but if you see in books genrally they used to deisgn and explain with three switches,so if the purchase is under budget fo another cisco 2950 switch then go ahead so that you can have clear undersating and troubleshoot for all switch realted issue for lab practices.

Hope that clear out your query !!

If helpful do rate the valuable post.

Thanks for the reply. I have purchased the second 2950 switch. I will purchase a third after I take the INCD1 exam. I will also purchase a third router at that time and am thinking about the 2620xm. I see it supports SDM, IPv6, and other things covered on the INCD2 exam. Can it also be used as an access server?

Thanks for your reply. I have purchased a Cisco 3640 router w/NM-1E2W,NM-1E1R2W and a 2912 switch. I see the 3640 has all features covered on current CCNA exam. That leaves me with 3 routers and 3 switches. I'm done spending money until I pass the exam
