The 'Answered' status is flapping

Hello everyone,

The 'Answered' status of a thread seems to disappear if the thread is subsequently updated. I am not sure if this happens only if the creator of the thread updates it with a new post or if any update (by anybody) creates this, and I also have the feeling that this happens somewhat randomly.

In any case, this thread exhibits the behavior as of the January 20th, 2010, 11:50am CET:

https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3005134#3005134

The header of the original post says that "This Question is Not Answered". However, the subsequent post

https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3005135#3005135

is marked as answering the question and even has the cute star displayed

Anybody having the same experience?

Best regards,

Peter

Hey peter,

Hope all is well my friend

Just so you don't feel alone here, I'll throw in a few more examples.

I thought I was being punished by Dan and Tim for too much

whining about the new site

I'm not sure about the root cause of this but it should be fixed in the next

code release.

Cheers!

Rob

Hello Rob,

Thanks, I am fine! I hope everything is well for you, too. Thank you for the links. Your comment about Dan and Tim "punishing" you... I couldn't help myself laughing out loud

Best wishes,

Peter

Hi Peter,

Thanks for bringing this issue up. I had noticed this happening, but didn't dare to say anything. I was not afraid of Dan and Tim however as was Rob. Just so you know, punishment is automatic and the new site takes care of that. It keeps reposting automatically my old status messages from the moment I dared to say I didn't like the 'publish status messages' feature! Maybe I will see some mercy if I silence myself for a while!

Kind Regards,

Maria

Hello Maria,

Thanks for confirming my issue! And please, do NOT silence yourself - all your posts on NetPro are a delight to read!

Best regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,

Thanks for passing this along.  I'm investigating the problem.

I am just learning my way around this site, but I think I inadvertently removed the answered status of a thread by posting a reply to the thread 'after' I clicked on the 'correct answer' icon.

Hi Dan,

As far as I have seen, this problem doesn't affect the points or the number of resolved questions assigned to a member. It affects how the Discussion is visible in the listing at the Discussions tab (the indeed cute star isn't visible there). When using the feature at the Discussions tab to filter answered questions, the answered questions that exhibit this problem do not appear in the output (only the answered questions with the correct flag are listed). Maybe this also affects your site statistics and the huge success of our community reflected in numbers looks somewhat less there.

BTW: I find the feature of filtering open/answered questions very useful. Could we also have a filtering option to filter the 'Rated Threads'?

This could be any of the following:

i. discussions with (votes > 0), which also includes the answered questions

ii. discussions with (votes > 0), which does not include the answered questions (i.e. among the open questions)

Kind Regards,

Maria

Hi Maria,

This is actually already on our list for possible future enhancements.  The sort functions you see today are out of the box features.  Our reputation system is a customization so in order to sort by ratings it would require a fair amount of work.  If the idea gets enough user support we can always bump it up on the priority list.  Anyone else also interested in this?

Cheers,

Dan
