IOS for 6500: modular or not?

Hi all,

at customer's site, we're trying to define what will be the next IOS release to be accepted and installed on all Catalyst 6500.

Starting from HW installed and features desired, we are focusing on IOS 12.2SXH6, but a last choice remains: modular IOS or not?

The upgrade process is here quite long and not frequent (last upgrade was at least 5 years ago!) so the choice to switch to modular, if not taken now, should be postponed of years.

Does anyone of you know if some reasons exist not to adopt it? Is it stable and has it been well exposed?

To be or not to be? That is the question.

Modular IOS, when unvieled, was a very good idea. Instead of downloading the full IOS, you just download a small patch and it should work. The only problem is that there was very little support from Cisco itself. As to the question of stability, the modular IOS is cut from the same fabric so it will be similar.
