One further question

If I use the example in

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2030/products_configuration_example09186a00806e880b.shtml

i. will it revert to connection (1) the primary one automatically when it comes back up?

ii. What version of software does it need to run

Hi,

Yes, As mentioned by Jon it will revert back to the primary route as soon as its back.

with Version 7.x and later , the ASA supports object tracking feature.

unfortunately, the security appliance doesnt support loadbalancing, so its not possible to loadbalance the traffic.
