LMS 3.2 home page does not open on Windows 2008

I have successfully installed LMS 3.2 on Windows 2008 SP2.

The first install attempt did not suceeded, almost at the end the setup proccess crashed due to a DEP error. I have uninstalled, disabled DEP

and installed again. This time the installation got OK. See install and uninstall logs.

After reboota all services seems to be running but the objects\dmgtd\ready shows the following files:

EPMServer, NOSServer and PTMServer.

See pdshow uploaded with the install logs.

When I try to connect the login pages apper but after entering admin and password the browser says can not open the page.

I have uploaded also the directory log.

Any help is appreciated

This sounds like CSCtb17186.

Symptom:

After entering credentials into the login screen of CiscoWorks LAN Management Solution, an error is thrown indicated that redirection has failed.  Alternatively, the user may be redirected forever.  Firefox may report:

The page isn't redirecting properly

Conditions:

This is most readily seen with LMS 3.2 running on Windows 2008 servers.  However, the problem can affect any version of LMS running on Windows if cookies are disabled for the internal SYSTEM user on the LMS server.  One known way to disable cookies for this user is by using the Internet Explorer Admin KIT (IEAK).

Workaround:

First, make sure the server is running a supported configuration.  Right now, that means IE 6.0 or 7.0.  If LMS is installed on Windows 2008, make sure the server is running SP1 and NOT SP2.

If the problem persists, open regedit.exe, and create or modify the following registry key DWORDs:

Then restart CiscoWorks Daemon Manager.

After applying the CSCtb17186 registry corrections the home page opens.

But the dmgt/ready directory still shows the files EPMServer, NOSServer and PTMServer.

Any clue about this behavior?

I will proceed with the software/packages updates.

Hi

I have updated LMS 3.2 with the CM5.2.1 and RME 4.3.1. After that whenever the daemon manager is restarted the tomcat stuck on the initialization, what normaly takes only one minute. The Apache server do not start. The other services start, but can not login because the Apache does not run.

The only way to have all services running is making a server restart.

Is there any way to correct this?

There are no errors here. Tomcat is allowed to take up to seven minutes to come up. While it does, TomcatMonitor will loop trying to connect to tcp/9009. If you think Tomcat is experiencing errors, check the Tomcat stdout.log and stderr.log under NMSROOT/MDC/tomcat/logs.

Hi

The problem is that the Apache never starts so I can not connect to the LMS. The only way is to restart the server.

When the server comes from complete restart the daemon manager is capable of start all services including the Tomcat and the Apache and all goes well.

I am wodering if there is some interlock between Tomcat and Apache that ios preventing both to complet their startup.

The Apache not even shows the status Starting on the Services window. The Tomcat shows the status starting.

I have attached the Apache error log and the Tomcat stderr log.

I see java error on the Tomcat stderr log.

The Apache log is warning about server name not matching on the RSA cert but you can check on the install log that the server name

is the same used on cert generation.

There are no fatal errors in either of these logs. Where is the Tomcat stdout.log captured after you do a "net start crmdmgtd" and reproduce the problem with Apache not starting? Also, collect a pdshow when this problem is occurring. You may have to wait up to an hour for the pdshow output to return.

Did you resolve this issue ? How ?

We have since documented a bug, CSCtg76942 in which the time between shutdown and restart of the daemons is too short. The bug will be fixed in the upcoming LMS 3.2 SP release in March, but the workaround is to manually restart Daemon Manager.

The bug was initially filed against a component of Common Services called CSTM (Common Services Transport Mechanism) because that's where the obvious symptom was seen. I've now moved it to Common Services where the actual problem lies. It may take time to show up correctly.
