Dear Friends,

Is it possible to connect between two routers, one Router R1 with CDMA Dialer card and other Router R2 with ISDN PRI link. I heared that CDMA packet switching will not work in the said scenario and CDMA card cannot dial ISDN PRI and do data transfer.

Is it true?

thanks in advance

Hello Sairam,

since GPRS when using a mobile terminal for data services this is negotiated with the mobile provider and this changes the way the radio channel(s) are used. Data traffic is sent to SGSN node that then tunnels it to GGSN node to go out to internet or to reach extranets.

There is the concept of APN that can be used for generic internet access or as a way to implement remote access to an enterprise network but the call is not performed to a phone number of the enterprise it is more like an L2TP wholesale scenario where you call the service provider number and during authentication the PPP session is extended over IP to the enterprise LNS.

see

http://www.ripe.net/ripe/meetings/ripe-53/presentations/gprs.pdf

so for GPRS or UMTS I would say no you cannot perform the DDR calling a PRI number as you would do using a BRI

I have no direct experience of data services over CDMA but I would expect something similar at least in latest versions that offer higher data rates

see the following article

Hope to help

Hi Giuseppe,

Thanks. I just spoke to Cisco System Engineer who is handling this deal. He also quiet skeptic about this scenario of dialing ISDN from CDMA. I am worried now to hear this.

But I tested this back to back with both HO and Branch office routers with CDMA card. It is working good in live setup. It is just to share with you

thanks

Hello Sairam,

you are using a voice call to carry  data services, for sure you haven't a full 64 or 56 kbps on the mobile side but you are using a full B channel on the PRI.

I would say the only limitation is the very low bit rate you can get.

it is good that you have performed your tests even discouraged by other uninformed people like me sign of personality

Hope to help

Giuseppe
