SPA922 with CUCM

Answered Question

Hello. We're testing a SPA922 with CUCM 5.1. Basic features work perfectly, and we just wanted to ask about some advanced features in that situation:

1) Is there a way to customize softkeys on SPA922? We found out how to remove "dnd" and "cfwd". But can we, for instance, add some softkey, like we can do with Cisco 79xx phones?

2) Can we use Call Park feature with CUCM, and how should we configure it? We don't see the softkey, and nothing happens when we type the asterisk code.

3) Can we use Call Pickup feature with CUCM, and how should we configure it? We don't see the softkey, and nothing happens when we type the asterisk code.

4) How to change language on SPA922 and which languages are supported?

5) Can SPA922 use corporate directory from CUCM, and how should we configure it?

6) Can SPA922 use MOH from CUCM, and how should we configure it? We got silence instead of MOH. We then typed the IP address of the CUCM in the "MOH Server" field of the SPA web interface, we configured MOH files in the DN profile on CUCM, but nothing helped. If not from CUCM, can SPA use MOH from some other source and how should that source be configured?

7) Can SPA922 send FAC to the CUCM, and how should we configure it?

8) We had to type the IP address of the CUCM in the "Proxy" and "Outbound Proxy" fields of the SPA web interface, in order to register it to the CUCM. Is there some DHCP option or some other way SPA could find CUCM automatically?

9) We had to type the IP addresses of the NTP servers in the relevant fields of the SPA web interface, in order to make SPA get time from them. It didn't get time from CUCM, and it seemed to ignore the option 42 of the DHCP server. Did we miss something? Can SPA get time from CUCM and/or can it use DHCP option 42?

10) For negative answers: can we accomplish those features with some newer version of CUCM?

Thank you very much and best regards.

[Alberto] Not possible with these phones. You need to go for the SPA500 series to have customizable softkeys (but not linked to CUCM, independent)

2) Can we use Call Park feature with CUCM, and how should we configure it? We don't see the softkey, and nothing happens when we type the asterisk code

[Alberto] Not supported, when initiated by SPA9XX phone.

3) Can we use Call Pickup feature with CUCM, and how should we configure it? We don't see the softkey, and nothing happens when we type the asterisk code.

[Alberto] Not supported when initiated by SPA9XX phone.

4) How to change language on SPA922 and which languages are supported?

[Alberto] 19 languages, instructions here: /docs/DOC-9923

5) Can SPA922 use corporate directory from CUCM, and how should we configure it?

[Alberto] Not possible.

6) Can SPA922 use MOH from CUCM, and how should we configure it? We got silence instead of MOH. We then typed the IP address of the CUCM in the "MOH Server" field of the SPA web interface, we configured MOH files in the DN profile on CUCM, but nothing helped. [Alberto] Yes, in unicast mode only (SPA9X2 does not support CUCM MOH multicast). Dont have full configuration on CUCM, but on the phone, all you need to configure is the MOH server.

7) Can SPA922 send FAC to the CUCM, and how should we configure it?

[Alberto] Yes. Add the syntax to the phone dial plan (check the Phone admin guide for reference on how to modify it). Make sure the short code is not in conflict with any short code already used on the phone (under Regional settings) otherwise the code will not be sent. Just delete the code from the regional settings if you want a specific code for it.

8) We had to type the IP address of the CUCM in the "Proxy" and "Outbound Proxy" fields of the SPA web interface, in order to register it to the CUCM. Is there some DHCP option or some other way SPA could find CUCM automatically?

[Alberto] Yes, check the SPA provisioning guide. Phones support DHCP option 66 for auto configuration (tftp), basically you need to create an XML template which includes the proxy and outbound and any other setting and set it on the tftp server announced on DHCP option 66. The phones will look for the default file (name) as indicated in the [Provisioning] profile rule. Check the provisioning guide for a full explanation

[Alberto] No. Use the provisioning method indicated above for filling the NTP server.

10) For negative answers: can we accomplish those features with some newer version of CUCM?

[Alberto] No. Remember SPA9X2 phones are seen as third party devices by CUCM.

Thank you very much and best regards.
