New P2P T1 - config question

Hi,

I am configuring up a P2P (T1 pipe) between two Cisco routers. I haven't done that before.

Attached are the configs.

I am just using a static route on each end pointing all traffic out of the serial interface.

The routers attach to the smartjack and not an external CSU/DSU.

The telco is just proving bandwidth between the 2 sites.

There is a 'site J' and a 'site B'

A PC will be hanging off of each end.

Question 1 - Do I need a CTRLR T1 0 card  or a T1 DSU/CSU card in each router?

Question 2 - Is it ok to route, and not bridge across the T1?

Question 3 - Should the configs work?

Thanks!

Hello rfreytag

You need a T1 DSU/CSU card

Question 2 - Is it ok to route, and not bridge across the T1?

Yes, you should route.  Use a /30 subnet to connect them together

Question 3 - Should the configs work?

You would need to assign /30 for the serial interface.(same subnet). In your config you have 2 different once.

Example for the serial interafce

10.1.1.2/30 for J router

10.1.1.1/30 for B router

If your serial interface is up, you should be able to ping from one site to the other.

Good Luck

Reza

They are on the same subnet if I am not mistaken

10.1.1.1 / 24

10.1.1.2 / 24

I set it up in a lab and it works fine. Thank you very much for your reply.

Rob,

Glad is working and yes you are correct.  They are on the same subnet.  I was probably looking at the wrong interface on one of the routers.

Just a note that you can, but you don't have to use /24 since this is a point-to-point network
