I am newbie to switches.  Please excuse my questions.

how do i know if my switch is l2 or l3

I was finally able to open terminal cli and access the switch.  but it is asking for tacacc password which i do not know.

how do i reset password.  i tried http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_password_recovery09186a00801349aa.shtml but could not succeed.

booting image on my switch is bootflash:"cat4000-k8.8-4-7-GLX.bin".  may be, that will shed some light.

appreciate any help.

The Catalyst 2948G is a Layer 2 switch that operates in Catalyst OS or CatOS.

It's pretty easy to break into those .  When you boot the switch as soon as it asks for  password  quickly hit the enter key .  This should get you into the first level , quickly type enable and hit the enter key a couple times and you are in .  To clear the config use "clear config all "    .

i have been trying to do it, but failed a great number of times.

it goes into router> after i type enable and set password, it again asks for old password.

well, will try again may be untill i get into it.

IS reset ANOTHER OPTION?
