Netgear switches and UC560 VPN?

Hello.  I have a question about using Netgear switches at a remote location.

The system will be a UC560 at the main office.

An SA520-K9 at the remote office and 5 SPA504G phones.

The remote office has Netgear switches (not sure of Model numbers) already.

Will these switches work to pass the voice traffic along with the data to the phones and PC's?

Please advise.

Thank you, Paul Santabarbara

The switches aren't supported, but might work.  Cisco switches run CDP which allows the phone to learn about the voice and data vlans.  What device are you going to use on the remote site to setup an IPSEC tunnel with?

Dear Sir;

No easy to answer without knowing whether the switch is CDP transparent and can apply QoS properly. This is not a supported configuration as we cannot ensure the right QoS is set to the voice. Strongly suggest to go for the ESW switch to ensure QoS.

Alberto

Steven, an SA520-K9 will be at the remote site.

5 SPA504G phones will be used.

Would a Cisco ESW0520-8P-K9 be a better choice to connect the 5 phones?

Thank you, Paul

Alberto and Steven, thank you for your answers.

With a UC560 in the main office can I set up the remote office as thus?

  • incoming circuit from DSL connects to the Cisco SA520
  • one port on the SA520 passes data to the existing Netgear switches for data to PC's.
  • this leaves 3 ports for phones.  Customer wants 5 phones there.
  • can we use the ESW-520-8P-K9 connected to the SA520 to feed the 5 phones with voice and PoE?

Thank you, Paul
