Hi,

I bought a Cisco router 2610 and a Cisco Catalyst Switch 2950 and I'm trying to generate a key for SSH connection:

Router(config)#crypto ?
% Unrecognized command

It seems like he does not know the command "crypto", but it should.

I'm in Global Configuration Mode.

What I'm doing wrong?

Thanks

Possibly because your IOS does not support crypto feature set.  You need to look for an IOS with a "k9" in the suffix.

Router#show version
Cisco Internetwork Operating System Software
IOS (tm) C2600 Software (C2600-I-M), Version 12.2(12f), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
Copyright (c) 1986-2003 by cisco Systems, Inc.

Image text-base: 0x8000808C, data-base: 0x809E1C14

ROM: System Bootstrap, Version 11.3(2)XA4, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

So it seems my suffix is "f", then I do not have "crypto" function, right?

How can I get it?

You can download the IOS if you have a valid CCO account.

SSH requires special crypto code  for both the router and the 2950 .   Download versions  that support SSH .  For routers it will have a K9 in it , for the 2950 it does not . You will have to look at the available images for that and it will say SSH support in the download center for that image.

I had this very problem this week on a 3750G switch! It was indeed, the code version that it was running.

Cisco IOS ‘Crypto’ Unrecognized Command?

Thank you for going back to this old thread and confirming that there are still versions of code which do not have support for crypto and therefore do not support SSH.
