Upgrading from 8.0 to 8.2, so what happened to 8.1?

Folks,

I'm intending to upgrade an ASA5520 from 8.0(3) to 8.2(2). The following document discusses incremental upgrading of software:

https://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6120/products_configuration_example09186a008067e9f9.shtml#asdm6.x1

Under all realeases downloads for the ASA I cannot see any sign of 8.1, so whats the score here...how can i do incremental when 8.1 isn't available?

Second qtn. Must I also upgrade the ASDM software, and if so should this be performed prior to, or post appliance upgrade?

thanks a lot

Ajaz

Correct, from 8.0 you can only go to 8.2 on a ASA5520.

That is correct. If you read the RN for 8.2 here:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa82/release/notes/asarn82.html

You will read the following:

Upgrading Between Major Releases

To ensure that your configuration updates correctly, you must upgrade to each major release in turn. Therefore, to upgrade from Version 7.0 to Version 8.2, first upgrade from 7.0 to 7.1, then from 7.1 to 7.2, and finally from Version 7.2 to Version 8.2 (8.1 was only available on the ASA 5580).

8.1 was only for the 5580s.

So for your 5520 it is 8.0 and then 8.2.

ASDM upgrade does not correlate with the ASA version. For ASDM you just copy the image and change the "asdm image" command. You do not reboot.

So you can do itbefore or after the ASA upgrade.

I hope it helps.

Hey PK,

So let me get this straight.. In terms of the ASA upgrade I can go from 8.0(3) directly to 8.2(2), is that right?

thanks
