UCN V7.1(3) License Rehosted after Server Failure

Hi,

Our UCM V7.1(3) Publisher failed and was replaced.

Cisco Licensing rehosted the Lic files against the new MAC address of the server.

However when I try to upload the new License files I receive the following error message:

error: license file already loaded. Only one w1 license file can be uploaded

I have deleted all of the old license files, and reloaded the Publisher. The License unit report still show my Node License, Software feature License and DLU count. My DLU count is a minus and phones cannot register.

If I view License File upload, no licenses are installed.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Ian.

Hi Ian,

Sadly, there are a number of Bugs related to Licensing on CUCM 7.1 (X), it

sounds like you may be hitting one of them where the file delete info for

licenses is not validated without "root" access;

CSCtc43971 Bug Details

License Manager fails to start due to timing issue

Symptom:
License manager does not start up due to too short of a service manager timeout delay

Conditions:
CUCM 7.1.3.10000-11 with a large number of license files
or
CUCM version: 8.0.0.99091-5

Workaround:
For 7.1.3, upgrade to 7.1.3 SU1
or
Contact Cisco TAC Licensing Team to consolidate license units from multiple files into a single file.

CSCtc59039 Bug Details

CLI file delete licensing doesn't remove DB entries in licenseinfo

Symptoms:
The DB entries are not removed after removing the license file via cli command file delete license

Conditions:
This problem happens when there is only a license file uploaded in the server and user removes the license file

Workaround:
user will need to remove the corresponding DB entries in licenseinfo table. For CUP server license file. the following two SQLs need to be executed:
run sql delete from licenseinfo where tklicensefeature = '4'
run sql delete from licenseinfo where tklicensefeature = '5'
Note CUP will also document this issue and declare CUP doesn't support valid license removal through the CLI command. The only time that user needs to remove the license file is a publisher rehost is performed and the original license file becomes invalid. users will need to upload a new license file, use this cli command to remove the invalid license file, then restart license manager.

Rob,

Thanks for the detailed reponse.

You were correct. I eventually had to contact TAC. Rather than delete from the databse with a Root account, they re-hosted and merged my License files into 1 file.

This successfully uploaded and resolved the isue.

Got to give some props to Rob Huffman.  Great call on merging the license file.  This fixed an issue with an upgrade I was attempting where I kept getting the error "Upgrades are prohibited during grace period".

Thanks for your valuable input Rob!!!
