Hi,
I don´t have enough experience with VoIP and I need your help.
I have a Cisco 3845 voice gateway with version 12.4(20)T2, I have 2 DSP PVDM2-64. This gateway handle 300 phones approximately
The conf for conferences and transcoding is:
dspfarm profile 2 conference
codec g711ulaw
codec g711alaw
codec g729ar8
codec g729abr8
codec g729r8
codec g729br8
maximum sessions 2
associate application SCCP
dspfarm profile 1 transcode
codec g711ulaw
codec g711alaw
codec g729ar8
codec g729abr8
maximum sessions 9
associate application SCCP
sh dsp dsp all shows:
C5421 1 01 {medium} 23.8.0 IDLE idle 0 0 none NA 0 0/0
C5421 1 02 {medium} 23.8.0 IDLE idle 0 0 none NA 0 0/0
C5421 1 03 {medium} 23.8.0 IDLE idle 0 0 none NA 0 0/0
C5421 1 04 {medium} 23.8.0 IDLE idle 0 0 none NA 0 0/0
C5421 2 01 {medium} 23.8.0 IDLE idle 0 0 3/0/0 NA 0 0/0
C5421 2 02 {medium} 23.8.0 IDLE idle 0 0 3/0/1 NA 0 0/0
C5421 2 03 {medium} 23.8.0 IDLE idle 0 0 3/0/2 NA 0 0/0
C5421 2 04 {medium} 23.8.0 IDLE idle 0 0 3/0/3 NA 0 0/0
C5421 3 01 {medium} 23.8.0 IDLE idle 0 0 none NA 0 0/0
C5421 3 02 {medium} 23.8.0 IDLE idle 0 0 none NA 0 0/0
C5421 3 03 {medium} 23.8.0 IDLE idle 0 0 none NA 0 0/0
C5421 3 04 {medium} 23.8.0 IDLE idle 0 0 none NA 0 0/0
C5421 4 01 {medium} 23.8.0 IDLE idle 0 0 none NA 0 0/0
C5421 4 02 {medium} 23.8.0 IDLE idle 0 0 none NA 0 0/0
C5421 4 03 {medium} 23.8.0 IDLE idle 0 0 none NA 0 0/0
C5421 4 04 {medium} 23.8.0 IDLE idle 0 0 none NA 0 0/0
Questions:
1. Can I release this allocation, if so how can I proceed?
2. I haven´t have configured MTP, is it necessary?
3. How can I calculate the number of participants per session with this conf? Is it 2 sessions per DSP or 2 session totally?
If you need additional information please let me know.
Many thanks for your help, really appreciated.
Regards.

Table 6 covers all this
Table 6 Theoretical System Capacities for One DSP
You might have 2xPVDM2-64 but you're using only 1 DSP for CFB, so that's
IF ONLY G711 enabled on dspfarm profile:
8 sessions
(8 x 8 = 64 conferees)
If ONLY G729 or G729 is included in the codec list:
2 sessions
(8 x 2 = 16 conferees)
Number of sessions per DSP depends on codecs enabled.

1. Decrease the number of sessions
2. Depends, read this:

3. To learn how to calculate all that read this:

Hey Java,
Thank you for yor answer,
I follow having a doubt, when you say:
Sessions = 1 CFB with X participants
Number of sessions depend on codecs you enabled.
I don´t undestand very well this part, so in my case I have 2 PVDM-64 and I use G711 and G729.
Cisco says for 4 PVDM2-64:
g711
50 sessions
(400 conferees)
and g729
32 sessions
(256 conferees)
in both cases I get the same result, in my case with 2 sessions = 16 conferees as maximun. Is this correct? I think I don´t know calculate the number of sessions..
Can you help to clarify this point.
Many thanks again for your help Java.
Paul.

If it helps you can use this calculator on the cisco website. but you will need a CCO account.

Hi Varun,
Thanks for your answer.
Yes I have a CCO account and I know the DSP calculator but my problem was I didn´t undestand some points regarding conferences in Cisco guides.
Tks again.
Paul.
