Hi,

I have been searching cisco.com and some other forums in regards to this but can't find an answer.. Hopefully someone can help me out here.

I got a Cisco 7940 with SIP firmware, SIP V. 8 and I would like to convert it to SCCP.

I have downloaded the latest SCCP version 8.11 from Cisco.com and then copied the files to TFTP server.

Please note that I'm not using any Call Manager application. Based on Cisco documents, I used this one:

http://www.cisco.com/application/pdf/paws/5455/handset_to_sip.pdf

If I upload the firmware files, OS79XX.TXT and SIPDefault.cnf to TFTP, the phone should convert automatically to SCCP. But it won’t.

I have uploaded the following files:

P00308010200.bin

P00308010200.loads

P00308010200.sb2

P00308010200.sbn

OS79XX.TXT

SIPDefault.cnf

In SIPDefault.cnf I have changed image_version: to image_version: "P00308010200"

OS79XX.TXT: One line and that's: P00308010200

The TFTP logs show that the phone is requesting SIPDefault.cnf and downloads it but the phone still won’t convert to SCCP firmware. I dont see it requesting OS79XX.TXT though.

I have also telnet to the phone and use the erase command to re-do the setting... but no luck

Thanks for your help

You had not mentioned the .xml file was being fetched.

I don't think you can go straight to 8.1.2

Your best approach would be try 7.x or 8.0.10 first, make sure you do a factory reset anyway.

Thanks..I downloaded the SCCP V 7.. P00307020400.bin  upload all files to the TFTP... changeed OS79XX.TXT and DefaultSIP.cfg (image_version: "P00307020400")

reset the phone to factory default.. Still SIP protocol/settings

the SIP version is actually P0S3-08-8-00

I see in the TFTP log that the phone is trying to download SEP.cnf.xml

Do I need to specify the firmware there?

I also tried with P00308000100.bin still it just wont do it...

Thanks

if you have CME, configure and ephone with that mac-address, configure load under telephony-service.

If you don't have CME, how will you use a SCCP phone ?

I want to use it with 3rd party VoIP application..like Asterisk... Asterisk does support SCCP

I think it would be better to use SIP then.

Anyway, try the reset sequence.

I was using SIP and works great but then I purchased 7914 Expansion Module not knowing that it won’t work with SIP. That’s why I want to change it to SCCP

What do you mean by reset sequence?

Thanks

Enter "7940 factory reset" in CCO search box.

The SW that you're trying to push in is too recent.

Try 7.x first.

I did that.. I first tried 7.4.. now I treid 7.0 but it's the same thing.. won't upgrade it...

I just used another TFTP server.. thought it might have something to do with TFTP server...still the same...

I was actually watching the screen on the phone now, and at the part that says "requesting configuration" right after that I saw "No Load Specified"

I'm gooling now to see what that means but let me know if you ever came across that...

Thanks

In os79xx.txt, try Pxxxx.bin or .loads instead of no extension.

You should not see SIPxxx fetched after a factory reset.

ok trying this now... but how come that I dont see the phone requesting os79xx.txt from the tftp server?

It may be kept in SIP mode despite the reset sequence. So the only way is to give it what he wants.

Finally... I had to add

P00307000200

to SEP.cnf.xml.. once I added and rebooted the phone, the SCCP got converted to SCCP

Thanks for all the help.
