Good day,
Currently there is a 8Gbps licsence installed with the default 5 contexts at a customer. There is the requirement to install a license for 20 contexts.
When trying to install the license the followiong error occurs:
NTE_ACE1/Admin# license install disk0:ACE20080417075624847.lic
Installing license... failed: Can't install this license with the current count
The information recived from Cisco with the license file is listed below:
Options Included Quantity
ACE-08G-LIC 1
ACE-SEC-LIC-K9 1
ACE-VIRT-020 1
Below is some details from the module regarding current license:

Paul,
I did the test on my ACE.
Since you already have a couple of licenses installed and the new license file contains the same 2 license + a new one, when you try to install this license it does fail because we are trying to re-install the same license as the existing ones.
The solution (verified) is to copy the 08G portion of the license into a new file, then install this new file.
This will simply add the 8G license without touching the other licenses.

Hi Dario,
Thanks for the reply. I have already requested this from the client and should hopefully have it shortly.

Paul,
try maybe to remove your existing licenses before installing the new one.
Or edit the new license file and only keep the virtual-context license.
Gilles.

Hi Gilles,
Thanks for the suggestions.
So if I would need to get rid of the "INCREMENT ACE-08G-LIC" and the "INCREMENT ACE-SEC-LIC-K9". Is it best to do this by hasing (#) out these lines or removing completly from license file?
Also, after installing this license file, would I not loose my existing 8Gbps licsense functionality? (just need to check).
I would prefer not to unistall license, contexts disapearing and so on (yes, do the backup's and so on, but this is a bit of an issue regarding an upgrade).
Would we always experience this when needing to upgraded contexts or just from the default 5 to 20? Is this a know bug or realting to the way licensing is implemented or issued?
Thanks.
Paul.

Hi Gilles,
Thanks again. So just to make sure, if I create a new license file with only the "INCREMENT ACE-VIRT-020" portion of the license file recieved in it and install this file, it will add the additional 20 contexts we require and not affect the existing 8G license?
Just claitying my understanding here.
Thanks.
Paul.

yes, that's the way it should work.

Hi Gilles,
Just wanted to provied some feedback. Thanks for the advice. Modifiying license file worked.
I suppose the other option, as you suggested, is to uninstall the original and install the new one which contains the existing 8Gbps license. So do you want a single license file with all required functionality or multiple license files combined achieving the same end result?
Obviously one would need to follow the process if unistalling the existing license regarding config backups, etc. in a change window.
Again, thanks for your prompt and valuable input.
Paul.
