You may want to have a look at this link which contains a lot of IPSEC VPN configuration examples for all different types of devices including the pix. If you start with these we should be able to guide you through any setup problems you have -

Here is the problem, the pix 501 I have is out of contract and out of warranty, I wanted to

see if I could get someone on the phone, to help me program it and download the latest OS so I can install 3des.

Latest code will be 6.3(5) for the pix 501. If it is out of contract do you have access to Cisco download site for downloading latest code ?
