Does enabling Jumbo Frames on my 3750g L3 switch affect all Hosts?

I understand that with this switch I can only enable jumbo frames globally.  By doing this, will it affect other servers that are connected to the switch that are not configured for jumbo frames?  I believe it will but wanted to confirm it.  We are only going to have two servers on the same vlan sending jumbo packets to each other (Oracle).

Hi,

Since "system mtu jumbo" is global it will effect all L-2 devices. You also have to reboot the switch for the jumbo frame size to take effect.  It will not effect any layer-3 connection/adjacency unless you enable  "system mtu routing"(L-3).

That's what I was afraid of.  Thanks for the information!

You mention that all L2 devices would be affected.  What is the net affect?

Packet loss?

Unable to connect or communicate?

Drop-outs.  Lot's of it.

Got it, thanks!  Makes sense!
