asa 5510 memory leak

Hi all,

I recently upgraded my 5510 to ASA 8.2(2) and ASDM 6.2(5) from 7 and 5 so I could take advantage of webvpn.

Ever since then I've had serious memory problems. The ASA is leaking around 1MB per hour.

I've disabled all webvpn related stuff and reloaded several times (which is tough as this ASA is in production at a busy office)

I've checked my procs with "sho proc mem" and found that there is a process called "netfs_thread_init" that seems to be the culprit. I can find no info anywhere on this process though.

Any help much appreciated.

Kind regards,
cSmile

Hi Chris,

this process is related to CIFS. I just had a quick look and found at least 2 open bugs :

Without more detailed troubleshooting it's impossible to say but it might be e.g.:

CSCtf28464    Memory Leak In CIFS can casue memory depletion

However, do I understand correctly that you removed all webvpn config and you still see the same problem? That would not make sense.

In any case, unless you can open a TAC service request to investigate more in-depth, I would suggest downgrading to 8.0(5), assuming you can live without the new features in 8.2
