Point to point bandwidth bottlececk

Hello,  We are experiencing a bottleneck on a 100Mbps point to point connection that runs half way across the country and wanted to run the explanation we are being given by the experts here to see if it is actually possible.  Telco is saying that one leg of the p2p was disconnected mistakenly about a month ago. When it was reconnected it was mistakenly provisioned as a 50Mbps circuit on that leg only and as such the effective throughput for the entire circuit is now 50Mbps.  They also state that the point in which it goes to 50 is at capacity and it it is going to take a few weeks to get it straightened out as they may have to re-route the circuit now.  They said if we had caught it sooner we could have gotten the full 100 back but in the meantime more circuits came in bringing that POP to capacity.  Can anyone tell me how feasible this sounds.  Management doesn't buy it but don't see it from a technical viewpoint.

Thanks in advance.  All replies rated.

Hello Angel,

from your description this looks like to be a Sonet/SDH circuit or an ATM PVC (unlikely) or other circuit oriented technology.

if they have a decent network they should use APS for path protection, and they should be able to switch your circuit to a backup path where it is likely they can give the full speed you are paying for.

>> Telco is saying that one leg of the p2p was disconnected mistakenly  about a month ago

see this as logical path between devices for example ATM switches.

Or they configure their devices manually without any end-to-end service awareness or their provisioning system had a failure.

in any case your company should receive money back for all the time the circuit is not working at the right speed.

or at least to pay half of the fee.

>> but in the meantime more circuits came in bringing that POP to capacity

so they sold half your speed twice.

Hope to help
