By the sound of it the Dlink product is a router too, if you connected a CAT5 from the LAN port of the DLINK product to the LAN port of the RV042, the question you should also ask is who will be the DHCP server. Both will be DHCP.
Sure makes sense to have a AP connected to the RV042 for wireless connectivity.
