HSRP state changes without serial interface going down

Brief Summary

===========

We have sites which has primary and secondary CE routers connected to PE routers thru 2 different VRFs which is inturn connected to RR and then edge PE-> DC edge routers.

Problem:

=======

We get alerts stating HSRP state changed and all phone calls get disconnected.  When we check logs, we are finding there is no log for serial interface flap but BGP neighborship has been down. The HSRP states changes then BGP neighborship goes down.

Please have input why this is happening and how HSRP state changes without serial interface going down. Below are the logs from the router.

Mar  5 13:48:48: %HSRP-6-STATECHANGE: GigabitEthernet0/0 Grp 10 state Active -> Speak
Mar  5 13:48:48: %HSRP-6-STATECHANGE: GigabitEthernet0/1 Grp 11 state Active -> Speak
Mar  5 13:48:51: %BGP-5-ADJCHANGE: neighbor X.X.X.X Down Interface flap
Mar  5 13:49:31: %BGP-5-ADJCHANGE: neighbor X.X.X.X Up
Mar  5 13:50:22: %HSRP-6-STATECHANGE: GigabitEthernet0/0 Grp 10 state Standby -> Active
Mar  5 13:50:22: %HSRP-6-STATECHANGE: GigabitEthernet0/1 Grp 11 state Standby -> Active

Hi,

Packet drop or something cause the peer did not receive the hellos also can make HSRP and BGP neighbor flap.

CPU too busy might be another reason cause peer cannot process the hello packets, and drop the HSRP/BGP neighbor.

HTH,

Thanks for the reply. I checked the CPU utilization and its normal. Currently link is stable so cant say if it was high when HSRP state changed.

Look at the logs of all the routers running HSRP. Are any of the interfaces bouncing?

There are no interfaces flapped on the router still we are getting HSRP state changes on the router.

Source a ping (100 pings) from an HSRP enabled interface to 224.0.0.2

Look for drops.
