Hi NetPro.

Anyone encountered this before ?What is the means for the below msg ? currently user complaint about the Network Slowness . i found this logs from the switch.

Ya ! i have checked before i posted . basically the link doesn't really explain ...

coz, this logs keep generating from the switch ... however other cascaded switches have no such log ..

BIT Messages

The following are dynamic bitlist messages.

Error Message     

%BIT-4-OUTOFRANGE  : bit [dec] is not in the expected range of [dec] to [dec]

Explanation   An invalid request was detected by the bit list subsystem.

Recommended Action   Copy the error message exactly as it appears on the console or in the system  log. Issue the show tech-support command to gather data that might help identify the nature of the  error. If you cannot determine the nature of the error from the error message text or from the show  tech-support command output, contact your Cisco technical support representative and provide the  representative with the gathered information.

Following was the bug id which was resolved in Cisco IOS Release 12.2(46)SE:

CSCso66528

When an interface configured with port security reloads or you clear an error-disabled condition, the interface no longer returns this traceback message:

%BIT-4-OUTOFRANGE: bit 0 is not in the expected range of 1 to 4095

and i dont find any bug related to this error in th running ios in cisco site also,check out the below link hope that helps

Hi Ganesh.

Thanks for your information. basically our switchport configured port-security as well. however i don't see any problem for the switch configuration. just that i wondering what could be caused the network slowness now. i've checked the spanning tree and cpu util so far everything looks good. besides this logs i don't see anything then.
