Hi ,

but the above link doesnot give much information about layer 2 manager messages. ex an expalantion of  %L2_MGR-4-BADVLAN_DNLDFAIL : Slot [dec]: Download Bad vlan failed, reason [chars]  says like this ""an attempt to download data to the line card has failed"", but i donot understand this explanation ...

would be great if someone expalins this..

Hello Paul,

these messages are specific of C6500 internal architecture.

the CEF table is built by PFC with cooperation of MSFC both are on supervisors.

A complete copy of CEF table has to be pushed on DFCs.

DFCs are CEF caches that can  be installed on linecards.

The sequence of messages that you have seen tell that an attempt to update L2 forwarding information has failed, as a result of this linecards that areq equipped with a DFC may have their local copy of CEF table that is not identical to master copy.

This could cause some connectivity issues if for example the change would be related to the MAC address of a next-hop, just to make an example.

if this series of messages happened only once and you are not aware of any issue you can keep an eye on it for some time.

If this happens multiple times in your system it is wise to open a Cisco Service Request.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
