traceroute in 6509

hi when i run a traceroute in a 6509 switch it is giving the below

details

BHUSD_6509#traceroute 12.164.240.161

Type escape sequence to abort.

I am not getting a ip address or whatosever should come is that normal or anything we should do..

Post your config, and we'll tell you what's wrong...

Looks like you may not have a proper IP/DG combination, or proper routing configured...

Hi

Yes - if you don't have 'ip routing' enabled, then you need the 'ip default-gateway x.x.x.x" command configured.

If you have ip routing, you would want to enter 'ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 x.x.x.x'

In both of these examples x.x.x.x would be the default GW for the subnet.

we dont have a gateway of last restort so i assume that that's y the traceroute is not working
