I would like to know whether the onboard ethernet ports on a UC560-BRI-K9 are working as Layer-2 or Layer-3? I want to configure an IP address on these ports, is it possible?

FE 0/0 is a routed port and you can configure an IP under it no problem. FE ports in slot 1, is an 8 port switch, but they can be mapped to a layer 3 interface which in IOS is known as "interface VLAN XXX", under which you can configure an IP address. "XXX" represents the Layer 2 VLAN to which the physical port is associated. If you created 8 vlans, and gave each one an IP address and a port, you would be left with a 9 port router.

Only 1 thing to add.
There aren't 8 ports on the switch. You get 1 layer 3 port and 3 layer 2 ports. The rest of Marcos's post applies.
