SPA8800 vs SPA400 PSTN voice quality, integration with SPA9000

For the past couple of years I have been using several SPA942 IP phones, one SPA9000 IP PBX, and one SPA400 gateway.

The system works fine, but I've never been too pleased with the voice quality when calling to/from the PSTN.  SPA942 to SPA942 calls sound better, as do SPA942 to FSX extension calls. The SPA400 is currently configured for G7.11u codec preferred, 30ms packetization, and VAD off, but I have experimented with other settings too.

I'm wondering if the SPA8800 would provide improved PSTN voice quality over the SPA400?

Do any configuration guides exist to describe SPA8800 / SPA9000 integration as there exists for SPA8800 and Asterisk?

Thanks,

Don

Dear Sir;

Configuration is not supported as SPA8800 does not support PSTN-to-VoIP one stage dialing required for incoming calls on trunking.

Alberto,

Thank you very much for your reply, but I'm not sure I understand, or perhaps I wasn't clear in my description?

Today I simply have the PSTN connected to an FXO port on my SPA400 and I'm not using any ITSP.  I simply run the IP PBX (SPA9000 + SPA942s) in the house and all incoming and outgoing calls are made via the SPA400 / PSTN.  Are you saying this isn't possible with the SPA8800 in place of the SPA400?

I would also like to connect my "doorbell fon" to another one of the FXOs so that visitors to my home may ring my extensions, but of course I wouldn't want outgoing calls to attempt ot route via the FXO connected to the "doorbell fon".

Would you mind explaining in a bit more detail what you mean with regards to the 8800 limitation?

Thank you,

Don

Hello, Alberto,

I have a case in which SPA400 was replaced with SPA8800.

Now I need to configure SPA8800 as PSTN gateway of SPA9000 system.

The customer uses SPA9000, 2 x SPA942, 3 x WIP310 and SPA8800 with 3 x PSTN lines connected to it.

Where can I find an example of SPA8800 configuration in an SPA9000 environment?

In our Lab, I managed to configure SPA8800 and now I can receive inbound calls coming from PSTN line.

Also, I can make an outbound calls but 30 seconds after the dialing is finished the calls drop.

If you can help me with some resources regarding such a configuration, I would be very grateful to you.

Best regards,

Kino

Dear Kino, team;

Let me go back. Actually SPA8800 works ok with the SPA9000 with few caveats:

- Each SPA8800 FXS/FXO combo consumes 1 SIP trunk on SPA9000, i.e. you will need all 4 SPA9000 SIP trunks utilized in order to enable use of the 4 FXS/FXO ports at SPA8800.

- Need manual configuration as Setup Wizard does not support the SPA8800.

We currently dont have documentation for this setup, but this is as simple as configuring SPA8800 to perform PSTN to VoIP GW and viceversa. We are working to create documentation for it but it is based on standard SPA8800 PSTN/VoIP gateway. An example is available here https://www.myciscocommunity.com/docs/DOC-7654

Hello Alberto,

I would like to ask if there is any progress with SPA9000 with SPA8800 documentation or example config?

Thank you very much.
