We currently have 4 sets of 2 3750 switches stacked together. We have a 9th switch as a spare. They are all running the same IOS image. If one of the switches was to have a failure and we needed to replace it with the spare, how would the configuration file be treated? For example if the second switch of a 2 switch stack needed to be replaced, would the configuration of the entire stack be kept on the first switch and when the replacement switch was cabled up and powered on. Would the configuration of switch 2 be automatically sent down from switch 1? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Rafael
Yes, that's it - the config is stored on all the stack members, so if one dies (even if it's the master) the stack still exists.
You take out the dead switch, connect the new one, and power it up - the config should sync, as should the IOS software.
Just make sure the replacement is not powered up when you connect it or you may end up with a mess.

Aaron

The only thing to keep in mind is that it will probably remember the original second switch and try to add the new one as switch 3 in the stack. You can resolve this by typing the following command from configuration mode "switch 3 renumber 2"
