Hi all,

We are experiencing the CRC errors on master stack switch ports and LED's on ports are getting changed from amber to green and vice versa. Because of that we are getting the packet drops (loss).

i have changed the fiber cable also but problem still exist.

I checked show post and it show averythink is fine...

When checked in output interpretur ... it shows below error and recommendation

==============================================================

SHOW CONTROLLERS GIGABIT ETHERNET / FAST ETHERNET NOTIFICATIONS (if any) WARNING: 38157997 symbol errors found. Symbol error frames are the errors that occur due to misalignment of encoding at layer 1. These errors indicate packets coming into the interface with incorrect encoding, also that cable is not present or GBIC is not present or there is a bad cable or noise on the cable. TRY THIS: For possible causes, start checking the cable, for GBIC's. Ensure that the cable length is as per the recommended values. Also check the media converter.

What may be the issue?

Amar,

I have come across a caveat for the symptom you describe above that could be related.

Infact the IOS version you have has been deffered. I suggest you plan for upgrade as it could be a bug..

CSCec53648

The interface LED blinks green instead of amber when it receives valid 802.1Q packets that are 64 to 67 bytes long including the 802.1Q tag

Hi francisco,

the bug CSCec53648 is fixed in 12.1(19)EA1d..... I am already running 12.1(19)EA1d... So there is no chance of this bug affecting the issue which i described...

Thanks & Regards

Amar

Amar,

It could be a bug or not but again as i mentioned you are on a deffered code. Even if you open a TAC case with cisco sometime in the future they will mention the same thing to you.

Safer to be running a code supported.

Hi Amar,

Francisco is right.  The version you are using is deferred.  Time to upgrade.

Did you replace the GBICs on both sides as well?  If not a bug then the error even says it is layer 1.  Cables or GBICs.  You replaced the cables, now try to replace the GBICs.  Do one at a  time to try to isolate the problem GBIC.

I wasn't clear if this was multiple ports on the switch or not.  Also, is it only the master switch that has the errors?

Still, I agree with other two posters about IOS upgrade.  Not a bad idea.

Best of luck!

James

Thanks Guys...

I will try to have final webex session on our cust switch by tommorow to collect more info.. and if i dont find anything specific to the problem then i will recommend to upgrade IOS.. i will update here if the issue is fixed by upgrading the IOS...

Regards

Amar

1.  That code is ancient!
2.  Can you post the output for the command "sh controller ethernet "?
