Unity 4.2 - Users who do not want to receive VM in Exchange mailbox?

How do you keep Voicemails from being delivered to a Subscribers exchange mailbox?

In our environment most people want to receive their voicemail in their email but in a few exceptions, they do not..... Is there a way to keep the voicemail from being delivered to those not wanting to receive the voice mail in email?

Running Unity version 4.2

Thanks!

Ed

Hi Ed,

Every full Unity subscriber user account in Active Directory has a

corresponding Exchange mailbox. The user account that was imported into

Unity determines which mailbox messages are going to be delivered to.

So, if John Doe logs into their PC/Outlook everyday as jdoe, and jdoe

was the user account imported into Unity from AD, that is the mailbox

that Unity will deliver to. If you want users to stop receiving

"unified" messaging, you will need to create a whole new account in AD,

and import that one, ie: jdoe-vm or something different than the

existing user. This is how voice mail only solutions work as opposed to

unified setups. The users are unaware that another account exists for

them. The key for you is to remove their current user, and create a new

user and import the new user. At that point, Unity will deliver to that

new mailbox, but the users aren't looking at that mailbox in Outlook, so

they will not get voice mail along with their email.

Hope that helps,

Brad

Brad,

Thank you for the explanation! That works for me..... I was hoping it would be a simple check box to not deliver to exchange mailbox but go figure.... Oh well, thank you for the explanation and have a great day! I appreciate the help.....

Keep into consideration the followings before creating another AD user account

  • You will double your security risk with two AD accounts for users.
  • Double you exchange license

Another way to work around this fairly simple is to create rules on their outlook client for voicemail.

The user are currently receiving messages from the outside callers and internal.

Outside callers messages subject line in outlook looks like this: "Voice Message from Unknown (0003382891)"

Internal callers messages subject line in outlook looks like this " Voice Message from EMERGENCY LINE (5556)"

you can create rules for thess messages to be delivered to a different folder(s) (CAUTION: your Message wating light indicator on the phone will not work if you move messages out of the inbox).

I hope this help.

Good luck!

ajurado01,

Thanks for your reply as well.... I appreciate the tip. The problem we run into is that they want their light on their phone to still be active when they have a new VM but I do understand what you are saying and yes that is an alternative without a doubt. It would be nice to see a check box though to not deliver to Email in Unity but for now we will just have to setup a dummy accounts for their voicemails to be delivered to.

Thanks again! I apologize it took me some time to get back to you. I have been swamped with work right now......

Regards,

Ed
