CUCM Cluster issue

Hi all,

We have recently installed a CUCM 7.1(3) in a customer. That customer had a CUCM 6.1 which they used as laboratory (it is obviously installed as publisher). Now, they have decided that they want to upgrade it to 7.1(3) and install as subscriber.

We have to format and reinstall the CUCM 6.1 with the 7.1(3) version and configure as Subscriber. We have no problem with that. But, how should licensing work in this case? If we purchase an upgrade from 6 to 7 we will receive a PAK.

Here comes our doubt:

     - 1st option: Could we use that PAK to activate the second node in the publisher, so we just format the CUCM 6.1 and install it as subscriber? we think that this should not work. I mean, if you want to make a cluster you could purchase one node license and one update from 6 to 7 which would be cheaper than two node licenses. Are we wrong?

     - 2nd option: Upgrade the CUCM 6.1 to 7.1 using the PAK we get with the upgrade and after that, ask for a rehosting of that license ( I suppose that the reshosting option exists). After making the rehosting, we should format the recently updated CUCM and reinstall it as subscriber.

We think that 2nd option is the good one. Could somebody confirm us this point?

Thank you very much in advance,

Id go for option 2.   reinstall the lab server as a new 7.1.3 sub node.   Have licensing rehost the node license from the old server to the new publisher.

Copy out the original license view from the lab server before you blow it away.
