Hi everybody,

Anyone can help me in calculating the number of conferences and transcoding sessions for the following:

1-      I have one E1 port.

2-      Transcoding.

3-      Conferencing.

The router has 2 * PVDM2-64

What I know is the following:

PVDM2-xx where xx = the number of voice channels that the PVDM can terminate.

Therefore I have 64*2 = 128

I need 32 for E1.

For conferencing I can't share the DSP with other function PVDM2-64 should has 4 DSPs

What I am confused in is: what is the exact meaning of the maximum-session under the conference or transcoder profile.

For conferencing I should take care about the number of conferences required.

I have this problem too.

Look at it this way, the # session of sessions is the number of conferences (disregarding number of conferencees) or xcoding sessions. Its 1:1 relation.

I'd strongly suggest you to read this link to fully understand the capabilities for each dsp depending on what you need to configure.

The math is already in tables, so it's pretty easy to understand.

The above is true, but only if you speak about G711.Codec complexity affects that math, read below for that info.

Thank you too much about the first document. the second one it does not work.

I tried to read the document but still not clear

If you see: Table 5 DSP Theoretical Session Capacities. I am not able to understand the first row.

if I have:

2821/2851 (3 PVDM2-64) then >>>>> 50 sessions (400 conferees)

3825, 3845 (4 PVDM2-64) then >>>> 50 sessions (400 conferees)

2801/2811 (2 PVDM2-64) then >>>> 50 sessions (400 conferees)

2 PVDM2-64 = 3 PVDM2-64 = 4 PVDM2-64

in my case I have 2 PVDM2-64 with 4845 router

I have one E1 and I need 8 sessions for transcoding, how many sessions of conference I can configure and what is number of conferees in each conference . ( the conferees may they use G711 and G729.)

About me I am thinking about it like this:

I have E1 so 32 voice channel needed.(2 DSPs from 4 DSPs).

I need 8 sessions of transcoding (what I believe is each transcoding session need 2 voice channels, I do not know if it is true to think about it like one for incoming and one for outgoing -after transcoding-).

In this case I need one DSP 16 voice channel.

Now the remaining is one DSP from the first PVDM2 and in this case I should found in the configuration under profile conference

maximum sessions 2

Please if I am wrong correct me.

Is it still not needed even for PSTN calls?

To enable/use call park, no.

For the actual PSTN call, you might, depending on what technology you use.

If you're not familiar with DSPs, I suggest you to search CCO for DSPs so you can find some material on how they work and when they're needed.
