cisco agent desktop has encountered a problem and needs to close error

A Remote Hotline user is experiencing crashes with her desktop agent.  After logging into the program it generated the error message "The Cisco Agent Desktop has encountered a problem and needs to close"
I have removed the agent from add remove programs, re installed it and attempted to run it logged in as an admin and using both mine and the user's agent credentials and the program still crashes.
Agent desktop ver 5.0 Build  Windows XP 
Any ideas?

Check the logs in Program Files\Cisco\Desktop\logs.

If no info, increase the log level to DEBUG in agent.ini (Program Files\Cisco\Desktop\conf), try again, and see if you find more data.

Thanks for the reply, this is what I did to resolve it:


  1. Uninstalled Desktop agent from add remove programs
  2. Re installed program
  3. Do a complete restart or the prog will continue to crash
  4. Test program by logging in with user’s credentials Thu, 04/08/2010 - 10:22

You said you did this previously and it did not fix it. Are you saying that you fixed it by:

1. Uninstall

2. Reboot

3. Reinstall

Yes, the reinstall fixed the issue, but only after the system was restarted.  I was being lazy the 1st time and did not perfrom the restart.
