CallManager  Business edition 7

Is there any way that the system can be setup so that if we call someone (within the building)  and they are already on the phone the system will tell us they are on the phone

Currently if we call someone we get the rinigng tone ( no engaged signal) and eventually it goes to voicemail

Cheers

There are multiple solutions:

1) You may configure BLF (Busy Lamp Field) on directory.  So you can see their status.

or

2) You may configure different prompt on Unity.  Then Unity will play different prompt when the called party was busy.

The CallManager (CUCM) will not play out an audio prompt to the caller that the user is on the phone. However, you have several options.

1. Voicemail. A user can have a voicemail greeting that is custom for a busy line state. If you want this to be triggered when the person is on the line with one active call, then you would need to modify the Maximum Busy Trigger on the line to a value of 1. This basically disables "call waiting" and forwards calls directly to voicemail. Then the user would need to record a "Busy Greeting", which will override the standard greeting if/when the redirecting line (original called party) was on the line when the call was originated.

2. BLF and BLF with Directories. Built-in with CUCM is the ability to see basic line presence information. By default, the only way to do this is to create a BLF/speed dial on the phone. However, there is a Call Manager Enterprise Parameter (BLF for Call Lists) which will allow you to permit users to see line status when they look at:

- Missed Calls

- Received Calls

- Placed Calls

- Corporate Directory

I think you will find that this latter option is not only user friendly but a better alternative to play a prompt. A user can look another user up in the directory (or the Missed Calls list for example) and see immediately if the other user is on the phone.

Hi

Just an easy variant of what the other guys have suggested:

If you just set the 'busy trigger' on the line in CCMAdmin to 1, this will prevent the 'call waiting' type of ringing occurring, so if someone is on a call you get busy tone. No announcement, but will go to voicemail if that user has it configured.

This is what my TCV/IVR script "selective call progress tones" does.

Just to throw one additional option on the pile: Cisco Unified Presence would add this ability through the rich presence and Personal Communicator client. Users who are on the phone would be identified as such to others.
