6513 and Sup32/Sup720

All,

for the fastest speeds on a 6513 classic chassis using either a Sup32 or a Sup720 is a Switch Fabric Module still required or is was that functionality ported over the the new Sups?

Thanks in advance!  All replies rated!

Hello Angel,

sup720 has the 720 Gbps switching fabric on board so no need for external switching fabric

for sup32 I'm looking at CCO

according to

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps2797/ps5972/product_data_sheet0900aecd801c5cab_ps708_Products_Data_Sheet.html

sup32 has only the 32 Gbps shared bus and no option to install the 256 SFM (SFM2)

sup32 has more SW features and less performances

Hope to help

Giuseppe

sup720 doesn't need a switch fabric module. Sup32 only supports classic 32Gbps shared bus and you cannot upgrade it so for fastest speeds the sup720 far outperforms the sup32.

Additional info -  the 6513 can only provide full bandwidth ie. 2 x 20Gbps per slot in terms of switch fabric to slots 7 -13. Slots 1 - 6 are limited to only 1 x 20Gbps. If you want a chassis that supports 2 x 20Gbps on all slots then go for a 6509 chassis not a 6513.

For absolute fastest throughput you should look to deploy 67xx modules with DFCs on the modules.
