IP Helper on WAN/LAN

Answered Question
Apr 14th, 2010

Hello,

I have the scenario attached, this scenario the wan is frame-relay

My question is how can a DHCP server remote identify what POOL of IP address to use?

I know I can use a local dhcp server, even the router as dhcp server,  but the centralized dhcp is a requirement :/

It know because the router insers GW address in the request packet.

Be aware that when WAN is down, the "requirement" becomes a major hinderance, and everyone gets very angry.

For instance,

Will F1 forward the dhcp discovery from a workstation to the DHCP server using as source address F1's local ethernet? Is that how it knows ? or is there a option that it uses ?

Thank you!
