6500 module install question

Quick question, when adding a line card to the 6513, the card will be auto recognized by the switch for a base config and can be provisioned for use at a later point when needed, correct? There is nothing as far as provisioning that needs to be done to coincide with installing the actually module in the chassis. Thanks…

I would insert the card during a maintenance window.

And then I would shut down every interface to make sure no one plugs anything in and causes an outage.

Then do a 'sh module' and make sure the IOS recognizes the card and that it boots up properly. look for the "OK" in the status.

You are also correct, you dont need to provision anything beore inserting it.

Isnt the defualt status for ports in IOS Admin down already? I undertstand its always good to verify, but please correct me if I am wrong.

You may be right. I have seen cases where its not. Either way, its no big deal. Just shut them down if theyre not already.
