I decided to change the display name of switches using Common Services\Device and Credentials\Device Properties\Display Name.
Once I changed it to a name that made sense to me the icon change from green to red. I attempted to change the name back to the default ip address which did change the name but did not change the icon back to green.
Then I deleted it from the topology view, did a discovery, it was found but once again red. Also, did a discovery for the entire network and anything that I change the display name is red and unreachable.
Can /should I delete that data base and do a new discovery.
Also, I can use putty and get to the switches.
Thanks
Pat

Yes, you should be able to change Display Name alone without affecting device manageability in any LMS application.

The display name should not affect the ability for Campus to manage a device. As long as the IP address and/or hostname is filled in with a valid value, Campus should be able to properly manage the device. What version of Campus Manager are you using?

1. | CM | 5.0 |

If you have Campus 5.0, chances are you are seeing a bug in which Data Collection is no longer happening properly. I highly recommend you upgrade to Campus Manager 5.0.6. To get there, you will first need to move to LMS 3.0.1 which can be downloaded from http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/lms301 . Once on 3.0.1, you can get to Campus 5.0.6 from Common Services > Software Center > Software Update.

Try putting device names and ip address into windows HOSTS file. Should fix the problem.

I'm not clear about host file.

The windows HOSTS file is located in your Windows\System32\Drivers\etc . Open it with notepad and in the bottom add your devices' ip addresses and their name EXACTLY as you have entered in CiscoWorks. Then click save and try again.

Joe,
I gave you the incorrect Common Services version. The correct version is Campus Manager 5.0.5.
Also, all I had to do was replace the for whatever reason missing snmp3 credentials. However, can I replace the display name without killing anything?
As well thank you once again.
Pat
