Installing advipservices licence on 3750E, 12.2(50)SE

I've got problems installing advipservices license. Following the instructions, given in a manual I installed the licence. The system showed no error messages and everything was smooth. But the guide sais that after installing the license with upper level of precedence, the system will start to use it after next reboot. This can be verified via "show ver". But "show ver" displayed "Next reload license Level: ipservices" - not the installed one. But "show license" displays:

Index 1 Feature: advipservices
        Period left: Life time
        License Type: Permanent
License State: Active, Not in Use
        License Priority: Medium
        License Count: Non-Counted

Index 2 Feature: ipservices
        Period left: Life time
        License Type: Permanent
        License State: Active, In Use
        License Priority: Medium
        License Count: Non-Counted

Index 3 Feature: ipbase
Period left: 0  minute  0  second
I tried to activate the license manually with:

# conf t

# license boot level advipservises

with no result, since it doesn't even show this oprion among possible:

vf1a-4(config)#license boot level ?
  ipbase      ipbase level
  ipservices  ipservices level

vf1a-4(config)#license boot level advipservices
                                              ^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

Rebooting the switch doesn't help - the license level stays ipservices instead of advipservices

Did anyone have similar issue? Thank you in advance.

Apprently, advipservices is not supported on the 12.2(50)SE and the document below said IPServices has the same features. Please see the following link for more info.

HTH,

jerry

Thanks,

I actually managed to make the switch accept it. But in a strange way. Now the output of "show license" is like:

vf1a-3#show license
Index 1 Feature: advipservices
        Period left: Life time
        License Type: Permanent
        License State: Active, In Use
        License Priority: Medium
        License Count: Non-Counted

Index 2 Feature: ipservices
Period left: 8  weeks 4  days
        License Type: Evaluation
License State: Active, Not in Use, EULA accepted
        License Priority: Low
        License Count: Non-Counted

Index 3 Feature: ipbase
Period left: 0  minute  0  second

but the output of "show ver" is still like that:

License Level: ipservices
License Type: Permanent
Next reload license Level: ipservices

I seem to have an almost identical problem getting advipservices enabled on a 3560E after apparently successfully installing the license upgrade, how did you manage to persuade the switch to enable advipservices eventually ?

I have also tried upgrading the switch to 12.2(53)SE2 but this hasn't changed things, here is the current license status -

drtesta#sh license
Index 1 Feature: advipservices
        Period left: Life time
        License Type: Permanent
License State: Active, Not in Use
        License Priority: Medium
        License Count: Non-Counted

Index 2 Feature: ipservices
        Period left: Life time
        License Type: Permanent
        License State: Active, In Use
        License Priority: Medium
        License Count: Non-Counted

Index 3 Feature: ipbase
Period left: 0  minute  0  second

drtesta#sh license feature
Feature name             Enforcement  Evaluation  Clear Allowed  Enabled
advipservices            yes          no          yes            no
ipservices               yes          yes         yes            yes
ipbase                   no           no          yes            no

Have you tried to look through the links in jeye's post? Advipservices is end of life and they claim to support the same feature sets with either ipservices or advipservices licenses beginning with 12.2(50)SE. I needed to add a new member to a stack, which had advipservices licence installed before end of life announcement. The working stack could not be rebooted, and we didn't want to risk merging them with different licenses installed. I assume that the advipservices is already installed on your switch accordin to the guide. After the sequence of following actions the switch accepted the license (I can't quaranty that all of these steps are needed):

vf1a-3#clear license agent sessions

vf1a-3#clear license agent counters

vf1a-3(config)#no license boot level ipservices

vf1a-3#cop run start

vf1a-3#reload

Thanks for the quick reply, I was in fact trying to enable IPv6 support on the 3560E switch and wrongly assumed that the lack of IPv6 commands was due to advipservices not being enabled. Having looked at the articles it seems that all features are now included in ipservices and I eventually discovered that what I actually needed to do was use the following command -

sdm prefer dual-ipv4-and-ipv6 default

which changes the switch to run in dual IPv4 / IPv6 mode.

I installed the license upgrade when we first got the switches about 18 months ago and was sure that advipservices had been enabled at the time so it looks like the upgrade to 12.2(50)SE probably caused the switch to revert to ipservices - hence the confusion.
