The "CCNA Voice" certification will help you with the basics of VoIP, there is another very good book that you migh get from Cisco Press its "Voice over IP Fundamentals Version 2" I am strongly recommend you to read it before starting with your CCVP.

The CCVP represents the evolutionary step between CCNA Voice and CCIE Voice. While the CCVP can be achieved through book study and tutorials, you must have a deep understanding of CUCM fundamentals and operations itself. Book study alone won't hack it.

Let me rephrase that - even if you would get your CCVP with book study alone, without real hands-on experience, the CCVP would get you into alot of bad situations. I know of two people in our company whom got their CCVP but couldn't install Call Mgr to save their neck.

So my advice is to use the study mechanisms to complete your CCNA Voice (only needs the CVoice test with CCNA), and get involved in as many voice projects as you can. CUCM, UC express, or even perhaps just being the person to do the engineering for the network QOS. Use these mechanisms to help with real life study and take the CCVP tests as they come as you get this experience.

When you get the CCVP after all of that, it will feel very good and be true.

I wish to second Jeff's post.  Without real world experience, all you would become would be a paper CCVP.  Getting that experience will help you to understand the things that you learn from the books, the videos, and training.  And let's face it, sometimes what is in a book may not always work exactly the same way in real life.  As a network technician, I have taken over the VoIP responsibilities of my company and it has helped out tremendously.  I myself finished my CVoice last year and am now studying QOS.
